20.20 thank Danny Boyle

There is little doubt that Danny Boyle's visionary Olympic Opening Ceremony reaffirmed London's position as the creative capital of the world – and did so on an international stage.

In gratitude, 20.20 decided that the Lancashire-born director and producer deserved to be awarded his very own gold medal for outstanding creative achievement.

Our team reflected on the ceremony and distilled our sentiments into a single statement of no more than five words. These descriptions were then encased in a special 20.20 'gold medal' and sent to the great man as a memento of 2012; the year his efforts awakened a sense of British pride that had been lying dormant for so long.

Graciously, Mr Boyle sent us a note of appreciation in response. As he is currently working on two period pieces as well as a rumoured sequel to 'Trainspotting', we suspect that going 'back to the day job' will mean more than a conventional schlep to the office – and thank goodness for that.
